Get more out of the floor space with our prefabricated house extensions

Additional living space

Especially when land prices are high, it is important to make optimum use of the plot and maximise the living space in the house – especially when building on a floor slab. Our prefabricated houses are flexible, making it easy to plan an extension. Our sample designs and show houses demonstrate the options available when planning your individual prefabricated house: from a cozy winter garden and a practical porch to a gable for more space and light in the attic.

Prefabricated house Variant 35-160: Extension option: Technical room & garage

More space by relocating the technical room

Technical room

How can you create more space in the house without increasing the base area over two storeys? One practical option is to relocate the utility room - for example in a single-storey prefabricated extension, in the porch or in the garage.

One example of this is our Variant 35-160 design: in this detached house, we show a garage and a separate utility room as a planning option.

Prefabricated house Variant 275

Bring the outdoors in with a winter garden

Winter garden

With a winter garden, you can add a beautiful, light-flooded space for sitting and relaxing to your prefabricated house.

Our Variant 275 house design with pitched roof shows what this can look like: here we have added a winter garden to the gable end as a planning option. This creates an additional room of around 17 m² on the ground floor – enough space for a cosy dining area.

Prefabricated house Bungalow 113

The right terrace for your prefabricated house

Terrace

Our prefabricated houses can be easily combined with a (covered) terrace to create a cosy outdoor seating area. Our designs show some of the ways in which a terrace can be integrated into the house design.

As an angled bungalow, our Bungalow 113 offers a terrace area that is protected from the wind and can be used from spring to autumn with an optional roof.

In the semi-detached house 135 design, a covered loggia on the upper floor protects the terrace on the ground floor from the rain.

Prefabricated house Villa 142

More space and more light with a bay window

Bay window

With a bay window on your prefabricated house, you can create additional space in individual rooms without having to change the entire floor plan or increase the floor area.

With our Villa 142 design, we show you a planning version in which a bay window with a flat roof and large windows creates 7 m² of living space in the dining area and also lets plenty of daylight into the living area.

In our Vita 156 design, an optional two-storey bay window extends the living space and one of the children's rooms by approx. 2 m² each and at the same time lightens up the exterior view of the house.

Prefabricated house Variant 45-175

Bright living room in the house with dwarf gable

Dwarf gable

The decision in favour of a dwarf gable on a prefabricated house has several advantages:  Firstly, you extend the living space on the top floor by several square metres, and secondly, the additional window areas let in plenty of light. In addition, the dwarf gable visually breaks up the façade and becomes a highlight of the house.

Take a look at our Variant 45-175 prefabricated house as an example, where the dwarf gable in the attic creates space for a third, bright children's room.

Prefabricated house Variant 25-192

The porch as a practical extension

Porch

A porch can be added to your prefabricated house on request. The porch is a small room directly behind the front door, which is separated from the living area by another door. This prevents cold outside air from entering the living areas when you enter the house and prevents heat from being lost.

You also create several square metres of additional space for wardrobe, shoes, umbrellas and toys that accumulate in the entrance area.

In our Variant 25-192 and Villa 183 prefabricated house designs, for example, we have prepared planning options with a porch.

Prefabricated house Bungalow 139

Versatile solution – a carport for your prefabricated house

Carport

A carport offers a number of advantages that make your everyday life easier:

  • Protection of the car from sunlight, rain, snow and hail
  • Dry storage space for firewood, garden and hobby equipment
  • Good air circulation due to open construction
  • Additional covered entrance to the house possible
  • More cost-effective than a garage

With our prefabricated house Bungalow 139, for example, we show you a carport as a planning option, from which you can access the utility room of the house directly via a side entrance - an extremely practical option for getting inside dry in snow and rainy weather.

Prefabricated semi-detached house 242

Create space and comfort with a garage

Garage

If you combine your prefabricated house with a garage, you benefit from a number of advantages:

  • Optimum protection of your car from the weather such as sun, rain, hail and snow
  • Dry and secure storage space for firewood, garden and hobby equipment, car accessories
  • Installation of a separate utility room between the house and garage or behind the garage possible
  • Additional practical side entrance from the garage into the house possible

In our Bungalow 157, Variant 35-160 and Variant 35-172 house designs, for example, we have already included a practical garage as a planning option. However, it is also possible to add a garage to all other Hanse Haus prefabricated houses.

Important information about our prefabricated house extensions

Frequently asked questions
Can the prefabricated house extensions be planned individually?

To create more space, to let in additional light, to realise your living ideas or to make optimum use of your plot: Our Hanse Haus architect team will work with you to plan the right, completely individualised design for your prefabricated house that fits your wishes exactly.

With the planning options for our prefabricated house designs, we show you how various extensions can be planned and how this can look. The different extension options can be used flexibly. So there is a suitable solution for every house.

When does a prefabricated house extension make sense?

An extension can be used to create more space. It is always a good solution when individual areas of the house need to be extended (for example, the dining area with a bay window or the children's rooms with a dwarf gable) or more space is required for a specific purpose (for example, for a separate utility room or as a garage). Extensions are also a good way of adapting your home to the specific conditions on your property.

Are extensions to existing houses also possible?

Existing prefabricated houses can also be upgraded with extensions. Hanse Haus does not offer such extensions at the moment.

When building your new prefabricated house with Hanse Haus, there are many options for you. The floor plan can be planned in such a way that it can be flexibly adapted to different living situations.

What needs to be considered for extensions?

When planning, it is important that the conditions on your property and the applicable building regulations from the development plan for your building area are taken into account.

It is worth weighing up the costs: With a prefabricated house extension, the cost of building your prefabricated house will increase accordingly. However, this solution is often cheaper than extending the entire footprint of the house to create additional space.

Extensions can also have an impact on the energy efficiency of your home: Less heat is lost in particularly compact houses than in angled floor plans with many bay windows or gables.

Our tip!

More space, more possibilities

Hanse Haus also offers the option of adding a completely separate flat to your prefabricated house. In our Variant 25-150 with granny flat, an additional flat is simply attached to the house as a cube – practical, barrier-free and eligible for state subsidies.“
